About Lasagna :-

Lasagna is a traditional Italian dish that has a rich history dating back several centuries. Its origins can be traced to ancient Rome, although the dish has evolved and transformed over time.

The word “lasagna” is derived from the Greek word “laganon,” which referred to a flat sheet of pasta dough. The Romans adopted this type of pasta and created their own version of the dish, which included layers of pasta sheets, sauce, and various fillings.

In ancient Rome, lasagna was not made with tomatoes, as tomatoes were not introduced to Europe until the 16th century. Instead, the pasta was layered with meat, cheese, and spices. The dish was cooked in ovens, similar to modern-day lasagna.

Today, lasagna remains a classic and cherished Italian dish, appreciated for its comforting and satisfying qualities. It continues to be prepared and enjoyed in countless variations, showcasing the creativity and versatility of Italian cuisine.

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef (or beef and pork mix) over medium heat until browned. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to combine. Simmer the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the ricotta cheese and egg. Mix well until smooth.
  6. Assemble the lasagna:
  • Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of the greased baking dish.
  • Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
  • Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
  • Sprinkle a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the ricotta cheese.

  1. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top layer of meat sauce.
  2. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  3. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
